This Derham
sport sedan represents the maturity of automotive streamlining in the
1930’s. All the individual streamlining efforts have been merged into its
fluid shape. This is a car of splendor yet somewhat mysterious to the
extent of almost sinister proportions. In 1937, the Derham Coach Company risked building one sport sedan on speculation. Price and the depression kept it unsold until 1938 when Mr. Thomas Morris of New York City purchased this unique model. The Derham Coach Company decided not to take any more risks. In 1947 it was relocated to Omaha. In 1957, it was placed at the Ford Agency of Idebolt, Iowa where Mr. Gulbrandson of Albert Lea, MN. acquired the Lincoln. The car remained idle in a barn for the next twenty years. The current owner Ed Burchman took possession of the forlorn vehicle in 1977. When questioned by Ed, “why are you selling”? The previous owner said, “that he was under pressure to get rid of that piece of junk”. The major restoration commenced in 2000. Every element and component was rebuilt by Ed Burchman. From the five-foot muffler to the sliding sunroof; from the senior Trippe lights to the truck racks; all was restored. This car represents the efforts of what was once called a shade tree mechanic and recently won its class (American 1925-41 Closed) at the 2004 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. With its 145-inch wheelbase, inverted tear drop headlights, pontoon fenders, full fastback roof and unique molding result in its formidable appearance. The car is so fascinating that it is hard to believe that it might not be a living thing. © 2004 Ed Burchman - Coachbuilt.com For more information please read:
